Friday File: Belgian success for a 56th win?

One day before the opening cobbled classic of the season, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, followed next day by it's sprinter's twin, Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. It is a Belgian affair. The home country has won 55 out of 71 editions but only won three of the last ten editions. Greg Van Avermaet will defend his title and will be accompany by a cool cast of cobbled countrymen that are just as eager to win on home cobbled soil. Here's my Belgian list of favorites: Tom Boonen, Phil Gilbert, Tiesj Benoot, Sep Vanmarcke, Edward Theuns and Oli Naesen. Peter Sagan, just because its Peter Sagan, he's my heavy favorite to upset the Belgian stranglehold. Who will outfox one another? I'll be watching for sure!

Flandriens...

1980...
Joseph Bruyere is one of three Belgians to hold the record for three wins.

1982...
Fons De Wolf won two editions; 1982 and 1983.

David Millar's classy 2014 fizik shoes.

Extra motivated to win his third...
National champ and new member on the power house Quick Step Floors team is Phil Gilbert.
The two time winner has something to prove and he wants to get back on the winning classic side.
